In this review, you will discover and learn information on our Best 8 High-Powered Blenders for 2021.

Best 8 High-Powered Blenders for 2021

Blenders used to be called high-spend and the high-powered blenders were found in professional kitchens while blenders marketed for home cooks had a certain power and speed limitations. Nowadays, that line has started to blur, and the pro-level blenders are now far more available for household use, and no longer produced by just a few brands.

While they tend to be more expensive than the basic models, high-powered blenders have the power to process fibrous vegetables and fruits and hard foods, like nuts and ice, in a way that weaker blenders cannot produce velvety smoothies, silky nut butter, and billowy sauces. Some can even make hot soups using either the built-in heating element or the power of friction produced by blades whirring at high speeds and many offer connected smart functions and self-cleaning programs.

There are many options and features that can be overwhelming, so here is our guide to the best high-powered blenders in different categories.

Best 8 High-Powered Blenders for 2021

Best Overall High-Powered Blender

Vitamix is considered the gold standard of high-performance blenders and is still the brand favored by many professional chefs and restaurant kitchens for its power, design, and durability.  The high price kept it out of reach of many home cooks, now the Vitamix Explorian range is the new entry-level offering from the respected American brand, offering power at a more manageable price.

It is still not cheap, it is brawny enough at 1,380 Watts, to handle many tasks from smoothies, hot soups, and doughs to nut kinds of butter and non-dairy kinds of milk. The control panel is basic, offering ten different speeds and a pulse function, but no preset programs. The 48-ounce pitcher, crafted of heavy-duty, BPA-free plastic, is a bit smaller than some of our other picks, but dishwasher safe. View on Amazon

Best Smart High-Powered Blender

This sleek, high-tech Vitamix blender goes beyond basic power blending. The base features touchscreen controls and built-in wireless technology that automatically recognizes the size of the container that has been installed and adjusts the available program settings and blend times accordingly. In addition to five pre-programmed settings and a knob with 10-speed settings, when used with the Perfect Blend mobile app (which also connects with the optional Perfect Blend wireless scale, sold separately), the blender can be set to follow more than 10 preset programs and hundreds of recipes.

Unlike entry-level Vitamix models, the base is made of elegant metal, rather than plastic, but the 60-ounce pitcher is still built from heavy-duty, BPA-free, and dishwasher-safe plastic. View on Amazon or View on BestBuy

Best Budget High-Powered Blender

This blender by Oster offers a surprising amount of power at an affordable cost. It has a 1,200-Watt motor, powerful enough to handle tough ingredients like kale, and comes with a 6-cup glass pitcher that is resistant to thermal shock and dishwasher safe. An included bonus, this blender also comes with a 24-ounce portable smoothie cup that you can attach and blend directly into for that quick smoothie on the go drink. The downside, it offers only three preset functions smoothie, milkshake, chop, and three spends, however, it is hard to expect more than that at this cost. Some consumers have reported that their blender broke or malfunctioned fast, but it does come with a 3-year guarantee. View on Amazon or View on Wayfair

Best for Smoothies High-Powered Blender

If you take smoothies seriously and are willing to invest in a top-of-the-line piece of equipment to supercharge them, it is worth considering a blender that uses vacuum technology. Some high-end blenders offer add-on vacuum attachments, while others have it built-in like this one by Kuvings. What is a vacuum blender? It is not a blender that will clean floors: it simply means that air is removed from the container before blending which gives it several benefits. It will make your smoothies less frothy and foamy and prevent separation, it prevents oxidation so that colors and tastes remain bright and vibrant, and preserves nutrients.

The vacuum blender is pricey, but it boasts a high-power 1,700-Watt motor, strong enough to make nut butter, and a noise-dampening hood. The 40-ounce, BPA-free plastic container has a more limited capacity than most of our other picks, The blender also comes with a vacuum-sealed tumbler so that you can store smoothies and other blended foods and they will remain fresh. Best for Soups High-Powered Blender

Some high-powered blenders claim that they can make hot soups just through the friction created by their blades at high speeds. In testing, that claim falls flat and will leave you with soups that are maybe lukewarm. This powerful 1,400-Watt blender has a heating element built into the base of the pitcher. It features an impressive number of preset programs and can chop and sauté ingredients and then cook and blend them into a smooth or chunky soup. Throw the ingredients into it, press a button, walk away, and come back later to the ready-to-eat soup.

This blender not only makes soups, but it also makes smoothies, cocktails, and many other things a usual high-speed blender can. The nonstick glass pitcher is a little heavy and tricky to clean due to the heating element, it cannot be immersed in water or cleaned in a dishwasher, but the blender does feature a self-clean function. Just put some water and few drops of dishwashing soap in the blender and it will run at high speed for a minute to clean itself, though it might occasionally need a bit more scrubbing by hand with the included cleaning brush. This blender has a bonus of the included tamper. View on Amazon

Final Thoughts

For the overall best performance and reliability, the Vitamix Explorian Blender to our top pick, but the interface and functions are basic. If you prefer a high-tech machine with all the features, the Vitamix Ascent Series Smart Blender might be more suitable.

Things to Consider When Shopping for High Powered Blender

The motors of high-power blenders usually start at around 1,000 Watts and go up to 1,800 Watts. You might assume that more power is automatically better, wattage alone is not the most crucial feature, because the overall design is more important for how well a blender functions. In general look for a minimum of about 1,100 to 1,200 Watts.

Blenders that have larger blades, assembled in an asymmetrical pattern, and a greater number of blades normally perform better than those with fewer, small blades mounted parallel to each other, which can create space below the blades where food gets trapped and never gets processed.

Glass or Plastic

There are some pros and cons for both materials, so which is the best depends on your needs and preferences. Glass jugs will be heavier, but they are less likely to retain odors and stains than plastic jugs. Most how-powered blenders use hefty BPA-free jugs rather than glass since glass can shatter at high speeds. Also, over time blending hard things like ice or nuts at high speeds can scratch the inner surface of the plastic jug, so it grows cloudy, but that should not affect performance. If the glass is your preference, look for the model that is made from tempered glass that is more resistant to thermal shock. The last thing to keep in mind is the tall and narrow jars tend to favor better blending, but blenders that are taller than 18 inches might not fit beneath many kitchen cabinets.

When making your smoothies and soups, a tamper can be an important accessory that lets you safely push stubborn chunks of fruit or vegetable towards the blade, without having to remove the lid. Some blenders come with a tamper, while others offer them has optional add sold separately.

  1. For anyone who regularly uses a blender, you soon realize that finding a high-quality machine is well worth the investment. Everyone I know who has one definitely raves about the Vitamix, but given that I don’t use a blender on a daily basis, I can’t justify spending that much on the appliance. I currently have a Ninja blender that has been surprisingly powerful given the reasonable price, but I’m wondering if it might be time for an upgrade after seeing what else is available!

The Ninja blender I have used for a couple of years, just recently upgraded to the Deluxe Cooking Blender by Pampered Chef as I cook on the go a lot especially my hot soups. Surely understand your reasoning behind not investing in that much money for a blender when you don’t use much!

  2. This is one of the best kitchen appliances that I have found. I use mine all the time especially for blending soups. I particularly liked the blender that you showed for soups with the inbuild heater element as I’ve noticed that my soup is too cool by the time I have blended it and I have to reheat to serve. They really have thought of everything with the self-cleaning process as you can’t immerse the machine or use a dishwasher.

This was a great review of the different machines so that you can buy the one that fits your cooking style. Thanks.

Yes, the Pampered Chef cooking blender is awesome and I love using it to make hot soups among other meals. I earned my cooking blender for free, if you like to earn the cooking blender please reach out!

  3. This is a great selection of high powered blenders available. I particularly like the ones where you can make soup as well, as that is the only feature that my current blender does not have. I have been using a Kenwood mixer / blender for many years, so have not looked at replacing it for a while, so was not aware of the vacuum technology that is incorporated in some blenders. When I need to replace my Kenwood, I will visit this list again.

There are not many blenders that have the feature of cooking. That is why I use the Pampered Chef Deluxe Cooking Blender. The price of the cooking blender is steep but the quality and longativety are worth it.

  4. Thank you for including in this review this budget friendly blender. I like the fact that it’s a powerful one. We are not getting a low quality thing. I am a huge fan of Oster.

My blender got wreaked about a month ago. And I miss my smoothies. And even from a nutritional standpoint, I need them.

    1. Author

When you love your smoothies as you mentioned it’s good to have your favorite blender rather on a budget or not. The Oster blender has a good reputation with value!

  5. I think that if you use a blender regularly then it would be worth while spending money on it.

I like the way you have split the different blenders up into different needs such as best overall high powered, best smart high powered, smoothies, soups, versatility, large capacity etc,

There are things to consider when shopping for a blender like the power, blades, glass or plastic.  These are important considerations.

I have a Nutribullet – not too sure where that would fit in to your review.

    Great review

    Thank you

    best wishes

The Nutibullet was not included in the review, as the blades did not last when crushing ice for smoothies. It is most important to research and test the blenders for the durability of blades, glass, or plastic. Nutribullet is for blending basics of yogurt, and soft fruits, with only three months of testing, was very disappointed in Nutribullet.
